Photographing the Overberg

Open country changes the way a wedding feels.

The Overberg is one of the most varied wedding regions in the Western Cape. Within the same broader area you can move from forest venues near Caledon to rolling farms, mountain valleys around Greyton, countryside near Swellendam and coastal celebrations around Hermanus.

The landscape is a gift, but it also brings variables: wind, changing weather, long travel distances between parts of a venue and light that can disappear quickly behind mountains. Experience means thinking about those things quietly before they ever become your problem.

I have photographed weddings throughout this region, including De Uijlenes, Murasie, Die Woud, Joubertsdal and celebrations around Greyton and Swellendam. The aim is to use the setting well without turning your wedding into a landscape shoot.

On the wedding day

Calm when you need it. Direction when it helps.

01

You do not need to know how to pose.

When a portrait needs direction, I'll give it clearly. When the stronger photograph is already happening, I leave it alone.

02

The landscape should support the portrait.

The Overberg gives us extraordinary scenery, but the two of you remain the point. We use the setting without letting it overwhelm the photograph or the day.

03

The people around you matter too.

Parents, friends, reactions, speeches, conversations and the unexpected moments are part of the story — not background to a collection of couple portraits.

04

Weather does not need to become drama.

Country weddings come with changing conditions. My job is to adapt quickly and keep the photography feeling easy while the wedding keeps moving.

Considered, not constructed

Country wedding does not have to mean rustic photographs.

The setting may be relaxed and rural. The photography can still feel elegant, clean and considered.

The balance is knowing when to refine a portrait and when the better photograph is already unfolding without interference.

Photography + film

One wedding. Two ways to remember it.

Photography

The moments you can hold onto.

Full wedding photography built around people rather than trends. Strong portraits, genuine reactions, family, atmosphere and everything happening around the obvious moments.

Film

The moments you can hear again.

Voices, vows, laughter, speeches and movement give the day another dimension. Photography and film are created together by one team rather than competing for the same moment.

A few things worth knowing.

Do you photograph weddings throughout the Overberg?

Yes. I photograph weddings throughout the Overberg, including Hermanus, Caledon, Greyton, Swellendam and the surrounding countryside, as well as Cape Town and the Cape Winelands.

Have you photographed Overberg wedding venues before?

Yes. My Overberg experience includes De Uijlenes, Murasie, Die Woud and Joubertsdal, along with weddings around Greyton, Swellendam and elsewhere in the region.

Do you offer both wedding photography and film?

Yes. Couples can book photography, film, or have both covered together. When photography and film are booked together the team works as one unit, which keeps the day much less intrusive.

Do you charge travel for Overberg weddings?

Collections are tailored around the wedding and location, so any travel requirements are discussed clearly before booking. Send me your venue and date and I'll include everything relevant when I come back to you.

Your wedding

Be there for it. I'll remember it for you.

If the photographs feel like the way you want your wedding to feel, send me your date, venue and a little about the two of you.
