Behind the camera

I'm Kobus.

Wedding photographer, filmmaker, husband, father and someone who has spent a very large part of his life standing close to people on one of the most important days of theirs.

What I believe

Your wedding deserves beautiful photographs. It also deserves to feel like a wedding — not a production built around a camera.

How I work

Enough direction to feel confident. Enough space to be yourselves.

01

I don't expect you to know what to do.

Most couples aren't models and don't spend their lives standing in front of cameras. When you need direction, I'll give it clearly. When you don't, I'll leave the moment alone.

02

I pay attention to more than the two of you.

Your parents, grandparents, friends, siblings and the people who made the effort to be there matter too. A wedding is bigger than a set of couple portraits.

03

Calm is part of the job.

Weddings move. Timelines change. Weather happens. People run late. Experience means those things don't have to become your problem simply because I'm holding a camera.

Why weddings

The older I get, the more I understand what the photographs are actually for.

When I started photographing weddings, I cared enormously about making good photographs. I still do. But after years of doing this, the photographs I value most are often not the elaborate ones.

They're a father's face as his daughter walks toward him. Someone laughing at a table. A grandparent. A hand on a shoulder. A room full of people who may never all be together in exactly the same way again.

That's why I care about beautiful portraits, but I care just as much about everything happening around them.

Experience

I've been around enough weddings to know when to lead — and when to disappear.

“Nothing felt rushed or forced. His calm presence allowed us to stay fully present while he captured the most genuine moments.”
Richard & Lauren

That sentence probably explains what I'm trying to achieve better than any description of my photographic style ever could.

What matters

Good photographs are only part of what you should expect from me.

01 / Presence

Your wedding comes first.

I never want the photography to become more important than the thing I'm there to photograph.

02 / People

Everyone matters.

A gallery should remind you not only how the wedding looked, but who filled the room and what those people meant to you.

03 / Longevity

I photograph for later.

Trends change quickly. The people in the photographs don't. I want the work to become more meaningful with time, not less.

If I'm going to be there for the day, we should probably like each other.
